Effects & Styles

Add, remove, reorder, and configure any built-in or third-party effect. Apply and control Photoshop-style layer styles.

Effects are referenced by their match name — a stable internal ID like ADBE Gaussian Blur 2. Claude knows the match names for all built-in AE effects and will use them automatically.

Effects

add_effect

Add a built-in or installed effect to a layer by its match name (e.g. ADBE Gaussian Blur 2).

remove_effect

Remove an effect from a layer by index or name.

enable_effect

Toggle an effect on or off without removing it.

reorder_effect

Move an effect to a new position in the effects stack.

copy_effect

Copy an effect (with its settings) from one layer.

copy_effect_to_layer

Paste a copied effect (or copy from source layer) onto a target layer.

list_layer_effects

List all effects on a layer with their names, match names, and enabled state.

set_effect_property

Set the value of a specific property on an effect by property name or index.

batch_add_effect

Add the same effect to multiple layers in one call.

batch_apply_ffx

Apply a .ffx effect preset file to one or more layers.

Layer styles

add_layer_style

Add a layer style to a layer: Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Bevel and Emboss, Satin, Color Overlay, Gradient Overlay, Stroke.

enable_layer_style

Toggle a layer style on or off without removing it.

list_layer_styles

List all layer styles applied to a layer.

set_layer_style_property

Set a property value on a specific layer style (color, opacity, size, angle, etc.).
